What is AIP?

AIP stands for Auto Immune Protocol, put simply it's a diet that is used to treat and regress auto immune conditions like Hashimoto's, Rheumatoid Arthritis and MS to name a few. It involves eliminating all grains, dairy, legumes & pulses, nuts, seeds, eggs and nightshade vegetables (potato, eggplant, capsicum, chilli etc). And eating a nutrient rich diet of animal protein, vegetables, bone broth, offal, fruits and fermented vegetables.

The idea behind this protocol is to heal the gut and remove any potential inflammatory gut triggers. This allows the immune system to regulate itself better and stop the auto immune attack on it's own tissue. Please note this protocol is not intended to be followed indefinitely, it is recommended that it is followed for an initial 30 days and then foods are gradually reintroduced to assess reaction and tolerance. I recommend doing this under the supervision of a health care practitioner. There is always more going on in an auto-immune situation and a health care practitioner can assist with providing a complete treatment approach that will include supplementation to support the AIP protocol.
